Who can join VVI?

VVI is open to undergraduate students of all majors and backgrounds at the University of Michigan.

How do I apply to VVI?

Do I need prior finance or investing experience to apply?

We do not require our applicants to have a background in finance or investing.

What kind of investing does VVI focus on?

VVI primarily focuses on long-term, fundamentals-driven value investing, emphasizing deep research, risk management, and disciplined decision-making. If you are curious to learn more about the fundamentals of value investing, feel free to check out this page.

What should I expect during my first semester in VVI?

As a new member, you’ll be fully immersed in VVI from day one. You’ll attend weekly fund meetings where members pitch stocks, participate in weekly new-member education sessions, and complete regular pitches within your assigned sector. You’ll also develop your own capstone investment pitch, connect with fellow members through coffee chats, and take part in VVI’s professional opportunities, including our annual stock pitch competition, exclusive networking events, and other career-focused programming.

When does VVI recruit?

We recruit twice each year. Once at the beginning of the fall academic semester & once at the beginning of the winter academic semester.

What does VVI look for in applicants?

We look for ~10 talented individuals each semester with an interest in finance who are curious, community-driven, and high achieving.

How should I prepare for the application?

Come to our recruiting events, get to know us, polish your resume, and stay up to date on the news.

What careers do VVI alumni pursue?

Does VVI manage a real investment portfolio?

Yes. We actively buy and sell stock through a Charles Schwab brokerage account.

How many members are in VVI?

We currently have ~70 active members and 200+ alumni across wall street.
